A Winning Room

As you may know we had an exhibit at the San Diego County Fair on display from June-July. We raffled off three hours of free interior design work. The winner wanted help with her living room and Gina and I met with her and discussed all of the things that she liked, and didn't like, about her room. We talked about the way that her family used this area. We took measurements of the space and of her existing furniture and told her that we would return with couple of new floor plans. One with the pieces of furniture she already had, and another with some new pieces.
Her living room was a good size, however she said that there was only one comfortable spot to sit in and watch tv, which of course  everyone always fought over. The homeowners had done a beautiful job remodeling their kitchen (which was part of the open floor plan, directly across and visible from her living room). She asked us to "make her new room look & feel more like her kitchen decor."

Existing Floor Plan (before)

In this layout the only seat (everyone's favorite spot) with a direct view of the TV and place to kick up your feet was the large chair and ottoman to the left of the room.

Existing Furniture, New Floor Plan
In this floor plan we only used the pieces that she already had. We centered them around the new placement of her media cabinet. This turned every seat in the room into a comfortable place to relax and watch TV. We also removed some of the pieces of furniture.

In the final floor plan we swapped out her sofa for a sectional and added a coffee table/ottoman from Pottery Barn. Now not only is every seat in the house perfect for viewing TV, but now everyone can kick up their feet and really relax. We also added some lamps, a new round end table and suggested a new chair and ottoman.

This is the presentation board we gave to the homeowner. It includes the new floor plan and all of the pieces that we suggested. We provided her with a copy of each of the floor plans and this board. With these tools she will be able to make easy yet dramatic changes over the weekend by rearranging her furniture or taking it a bit further and adding the new pieces. From here we can also continue to work by ordering the pieces and setting them up for her.

All of our clients have many different needs and budgets. We work with them in a way that is both comfortable and impressive.

What can we do for you?
